Call for Professional Development Workshop Proposals: Gender and Diversity in Organizations Division

PDW Chair: Jenny M. Hoobler, University of Pretoria, jmhoobler@gmail.com

The Gender and Diversity in Organizations (GDO) Division invites proposals for professional development workshops (PDW) to be held at the virtual 2021 Academy of Management meeting. PDW sessions may take place any day during the Annual Meeting, from Friday, 30 July through Tuesday, 3 August.

We welcome PDWs that expand our thinking, fostering the generation and contemplation of new possibilities. The theme of this year's Academy of Management meeting is  "Bringing the Manager Back in Management" which encourages us to reconsider how our research addresses issues confronting practicing managers. The aim of the PDW program is to provide experiences that promote the personal and professional development of our members – enhancing our members' knowledge and skills with respect to research, teaching, and practice in the GDO domain.

The interactive nature of PDWs offers opportunities to energize participants through deep engagement and can even culminate in plans for scholarly and practical action. Given our division's longstanding interest in the topic area, we encourage you to think broadly about how the design of a PDW can advance our conversations related to diversity and inclusion. Perhaps this year more than ever, race- and power-based activism and injustice are on our minds, and we as scholars can use our knowledge to educate others, including other academics, students, and practicing managers. PDW proposals should be innovative, interactive, inclusive, integrative (fostering connections), developmental, valuable, and provocative. PDWs provide an opportunity to experiment with new ideas and approaches that do not fit within the confines of the regular program, so proposers are encouraged to be bold in workshop design.

The division is committed to extending our reach – socially, culturally, geographically and across different roles. We welcome proposals designed to facilitate connections and collaborations between our members around the globe.  Submissions with an interdisciplinary focus that could be relevant for sponsorship between multiple divisions are especially welcomed.

PDW proposals must be submitted through the Academy of Management's electronic Submission Center (see https://aom.org/events/annual-meeting/submitting). The Submission Center is now open, and the deadline for submission is Tuesday, 12 January 2021 at 17:00 (5:00 PM) ET (NY time). Earlier submissions are encouraged. If you have questions or would like to discuss a potential workshop idea, please contact the GDO Division's PDW Chair, Jenny M. Hoobler (jmhoobler@gmail.com).
