    Within the Leadership and Human Resource Management (LHRM)department we offer a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degrees specialising in leadership, human resource management and business management. The LHRM department consists of around 70 academic staff who currently teach over 1800 students. Our programmes are professionally recognised by the Chartered Institute for Personnel Development (CIPD),Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and other professional bodies and are underpinned by world-leading research, including in areas such as Human Resource Management, leadership & Management Development, Organisational Behaviour and Business Ethics.

    Our research is organised around three core research interest areas: public policy and management, building better business, and creating sustainable work futures. The 2021 REF results placed our research power at 9th in the rankings for Business and Management Studies.

    In the area of public policy and management, we have had recent success with Research England on the support for a new Policy and Evidence Hub, in conjunction with department of Entrepreneurship, Innovation,and Strategy, and have formed the academic building blocks of Human Learning Systems, a complexity-informed approach to public management. In management studies more broadly, our Responsible Business Seminar series, Sustainable Working Futures,and the launch of our Baltic Sessions has attracted internationally recognised speakers.Supporting sustainable and responsible business growth is central to our work in organisational studies, human resource development and learning, and critical management studies.

    Our knowledge exchange (KE) portfolio is continuing to proliferate as we develop strong partnerships to deliver a force for good. We have a strong record of collaborative and contract research, CPD, consultancy and KTPs across the public, private and third sectors. Among our most significant initiatives is our pioneering work with Mersey Care on developing restorative just cultures (over 1,200 people from 25 NHS Trusts have completed this programme so far), our leadership and career development work with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), and our leading role in the delivery of the Help to Grow Management programme,supporting small and medium sized businesses to boost their business performance, resilience and growth.

    Successful candidates must be qualified to doctoral level in a relevant discipline, with specialist knowledge of HRM/HRD/Leadership gained through research activity,professional practice, or consultancy. A track record of high-quality research and teaching is essential, together with an excellent publication profile and ability to bid for external income. Proven experience of generating wider impact through research and knowledge exchange activities will be a distinct advantage.
