Colleagues,
In a joint project led by UNC Charlotte and NC State, we are evaluating authorship practices across both the natural and social sciences. This study is a prospective meta-analysis in that it is a large collaboration of approximately 22 R1, R2, and R3 institutions in the United States and several other countries. There is a parallel project in progress funded by the NSF to develop open access training for faculty and students on having conversations around authorship on project teams.
We are reaching out to you to see if you are interested in engaging with this research either as a participant or potential collaborator.
Doctoral students
We are reaching out to you to get some insight about your experiences regarding authorship on projects at your university. The survey presents short questions that ask for your perception of your experiences as a researcher regarding the determination of things such as authorship order on projects as well as whether or not someone has earned authorship on a project. We hope that you will participate in a short survey (avg. completion time of approximately 10 minutes).
As a thank you for completing this survey you will be given the opportunity to provide your email address to earn a gift card to www.Amazon.com. The first 100 participants will receive a $5 Amazon gift card. All participants will be entered into a random drawing to win one (1) of two (2) $50 Amazon gift cards.
All results will be summarized in the aggregate and no individual responses will be reported. If you have previously participated in this survey, please do not complete it a second time.

Potential collaborator
Currently the project authors include a steering team and a large set of collaborators who are being named as authors and provide an equal intellectual contribution. All authors are involved in data collection as well as editing and providing comments on the manuscript. If you are interested in a direct data collection at your university and joining this project as a collaborator, please contact George Banks (gcbanks@gmail.com).
Warm regards,
George Banks and Jeff Pollack
