Background: Hybrid entrepreneurs, namely entrepreneurs that hold a paid job, are a large and economically impactful part of the entrepreneurial population. While studies of hybrid entrepreneurship have stimulated important contributions to entrepreneurship theory, research has been slow to accelerate, due in part to many challenges in the publication process. If you do research on hybrid entrepreneurship and have encountered these challenges, or are interested in new directions in hybrid entrepreneurship research, we invited you to attend our PDW, which is facilitated by a number of established experts from the fields of entrepreneurship, corporate entrepreneurship, finance, and human resource management and organizational behavior. Facilitators include David Audretsch, Jon Carr, Emily Campion, Jie (Jasmine) Feng, Jeff Hornsby, Donald Kuratko, Michael Lerman, Moren Levesque, Tim Michaelis, Simon Parker, Jeff Pollack, Theresa M. Welbourne, and Karl Wennberg.
Participation without a paper: This PDW is open to all AOM attendees, and features opening remarks by esteemed panelists as well as round tables related to research topics in hybrid entrepreneurship. Illustrative topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Challenges associated with hybrid employees from employers' perspectives
• Negative and positive spillovers from venture to job / job to venture
• Psychological challenges facing hybrid entrepreneurs, including well-being, stress, work-life balance, burnout, etc.
• Performance implications of hybrid entrepreneurs' businesses
• Hybrids as catalysts for intrapreneurial opportunities
• Time allocation between paid employment and venture
• Hybrids as catalysts for female, social and sustainable entrepreneurship
• HR policy and reward systems for hybrid entrepreneurs
Participation with a paper: In addition, we have dedicated round table sessions for twelve (12) scholars to receive feedback on working papers from experts. You are invited to submit a maximum twelve-page manuscript to PDW2023-Hybrid@urbig.org. Your paper should cover the main research question(s), theory foundation, methods, and results. Each submission should include the author(s)'s name(s), affiliation(s), and email(s). Empirical, review and conceptual papers are welcome. All submissions must be received by June 30, 2023. Papers will be evaluated by members of the PDW's committee for inclusion. Author(s) will be notified via email by July 15th on acceptance of their twelve-page papers.
