A study published recently in Human Resource Management examined the role of employer signals and autistic candidates' meta-stereotypes (how autistic people believe other people perceive them) on the autistic candidates' fit and job pursuit intentions, using signalling theory as a theoretical basis. The study found that both employer signals and autistic candidates' meta-stereotypes significantly affected person-organisation fit perceptions independently, and also interacted in such a way that the effect of the autism-conscious signals was stronger among candidates who had lower meta-stereotypes than among those who had higher meta-stereotypes. The study contributes to research on organisational signalling, meta-stereotypes, neurodiversity, and recruitment.
