    Overview

Innovation has been extensively found to be important for organisational survival, benefits, and competitiveness, as reflected in the development of new products, services, and organisational procedures, employee and firm effectiveness, and employee job satisfaction. This importance has been intensified due to the accelerating pace of technological advancements and the growing globalisation of the world's economies. Among many influencing factors, leadership has proven to be a key predictor of employee, team, and organisational innovation. It creates conducive conditions for organisations' innovation competence.

The Research Handbook on Leadership and Innovation aims to provide a summary of the extant knowledge pertaining to leadership and innovation as well as novel perspectives, emerging

streams and new research directions on this topic. This handbook will be of use and interest to researchers, instructors, students and practitioners. It will define the state of the art on leadership and innovation, which can serve as a basis for future research on how to leverage leadership to drive innovation in the workplace. It will also provide practical insights to managers who are tasked to lead innovative efforts within organisations.

The Research Handbook on Leadership and Innovation is comprised of three major sections. The first is concerned with the role of leadership in driving innovation and discusses the key activities that need to be carried out by leaders in hopes of inducing innovation within their organisations. The second section outlines the various leadership styles that generate subordinate innovation. The last section deals with application areas of leadership and innovation; it presents various examples of specific domains where leadership drives innovation.

To enrich the leadership literature, this handbook will consist of a diversity of viewpoints from both the Global North and the Global South. Similarly, all leadership theories, styles and

frameworks are welcomed, even with varying definitions of the construct of leadership. Provocative and controversial contributions, even with points of disagreement among authors, are also welcomed, such as positive effects versus the dark side of some styles of leadership as per innovation. To follow current and future trends, the ways leadership embraces technological advancements also need to be addressed.
