Welcome to the Human Resources (HR) Division of the Academy of Management! We are a vibrant community passionate about advancing and sharing knowledge related to the effective management of people at work. Our collective interests span traditional HR practices and cutting-edge questions about the evolving employment landscape and the changing nature of work. Whether you are a scholar, educator, or practitioner, we invite you to join our community and contribute to the ongoing dialogue.
As a Division, we are deeply committed to supporting our members’ growth at all stages of their careers. We understand that members’ needs are diverse, which is why we offer a blend of conference and non-conference initiatives. These initiatives are designed to cater to various career stages, whether you are just starting or more advanced in your career. Our traditional conference programming at the annual AOM meeting in August remains a cornerstone of our efforts (see the most recent AOM program). This includes various scholarly sessions, consortia tailored to doctoral students and junior faculty, the ever-popular HR Research Roundtable Networking Forum, our newly introduced Professional Development Workshop for mid-career scholars, and the Silver Pin Program for senior scholars who have been members for more than 25 years. In addition, we have expanded our offerings beyond the annual conference. Our Early Career Mentoring Program continues to support junior faculty, and we host webinars throughout the year on topics spanning research, practice, and professional service. We are excited to introduce even more initiatives in the coming year, providing additional opportunities for our members to engage, learn, and grow.
Our Division is deeply committed to ensuring that our committees, events, and programs reflect the diversity and global nature of our membership. Through initiatives such as our signature Ambassador Program, we actively engage and involve members from across the world, fostering a truly inclusive community. We recognize that our strength comes from the wide range of perspectives, experiences, and cultures that make up our Division, and we are dedicated to creating opportunities for members to connect and contribute on a global scale. We are excited to announce that the 6th HR Division International Conference (HRIC) will be held at the Indian Institute of Management–Bangalore in Bangalore, India, in 2026, further expanding our global reach and providing a platform for our members to engage with colleagues from around the world.
In addition, we are dedicated to upholding the highest ethical standards in all that we do. This commitment includes incorporating ethics-related training and discussions into our Division-sponsored activities. Whether through our workshops, panels, or mentoring programs, we aim to provide resources that not only enhance professional development but also reinforce the importance of ethical practices in our research, teaching, and professional service.
I am honored to serve as the 2024-2025 Chair of the HR Division. If you are not yet a Division member, I invite you to join. If you are a member, I encourage you to find ways to engage with this wonderful community. Beyond the several opportunities outlined above, I hope you will consider submitting your work to the HR Division for the AOM meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark in July 2025. Please also consider nominating yourself or someone you know for one of our many Division awards. For even greater involvement, you might consider running for a position on our Executive Committee in the spring. Finally, if you have thoughts or suggestions about how the HR Division might better serve your needs, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Looking forward to continuing to strengthen our community in the year ahead!
Kaifeng Jiang, Division Chair
