STRATEGIC HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT IN THE ERA OF ALGORITHMIC TECHNOLOGIES: KEY INSIGHTS AND FUTURE RESEARCH AGENDA

A recent paper published in Human Resource Management (HRM) provides a contemporary review of HRM research on algorithmic technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and natural language processing. The review specifically examines how algorithmic technologies are reshaping three key areas: work structures and design, HR delivery activities, and the management of technology workers.  Using three different approaches or views of technology - the "tool view", "proxy view", and "ensemble view" - the paper explored how organisations employ algorithmic technologies to enhance productivity ("tool view"), how the human agency interacts with and resists these technologies ("proxy view"), and how broader social, cultural, and institutional contexts shape the use of algorithms in HRM ("ensemble view"). The paper highlights the unique opportunities algorithmic technologies provide to HR scholars for making enduring contributions to the broader conversations on HRM and technology, and offers significant implications for policy and practice of HR.
