Southwest Academy of Management Call for Submissions

    Dear Colleagues:

We have officially experienced the change to the Fall season, although temperatures here in the Southwest do not seem to reflect that change.  So it's that time again-time to submit your paper to the Southwest Academy of Management annual conference!  We are looking forward to seeing you in Houston in March (8 through 12-submission date is November 1).

There are many reasons to submit to the Southwest Academy of Management (SWAM) conference.  First, where else can you find an organization whose mission is "Crafting the Whole Professor"?  The SWAM conference encompasses traditional paper sessions and symposia as well as sessions directed toward improving the teaching, research, and service domains that comprise our job.  If you want to re-energize, especially after COVID reduced our ability to connect with one another in the past few years, please join us (in person) in Houston.

We are especially interested in receiving your submissions to the Organizational Development and Human Resources track.  This track is an active and vibrant area within the SWAM organization.  We (I) encourage innovative submissions.  If you don't like the traditional symposium approach, how about a debate?  We encourage dialog across different theoretical and empirical approaches.  Keep in mind, however, that SWAM is a friendly organization, so there are rules against fist fights!

We encourage submissions from both faculty and graduate students.  If you are considering your first conference submission, SWAM is a great venue!  You will receive supportive feedback on your submission and, if the submission is accepted, on your presentation.  Experienced presenters will not only have the satisfaction of serving as a role model to less experienced individuals, but also will receive encouragement to continue their work.  SWAM members are generous with developmental feedback!  If your paper is still in the early stages, SWAM also has a Developmental Papers track.

Perhaps you are not sure about Houston.  Houston is a great city to visit.  The conference hotel is in the business district and next to Discovery Green-12 acres of green space in downtown Houston!  You will be a short walk from Houston's endlessly entertaining Aquarium and the thriving arts district.  If contemporary music is more to your taste, another short walk will take you to jazz clubs and other music venues.  You can reach Minute Maid Park, the sports venue, easily by the Metro.  And you will have a great time with congenial colleagues in Houston.  As an extra incentive, if you live in a cold climate, Houston in March will seem balmy.

One of the most important things to keep in mind is the submission date for the conference.  Submit your paper by November 1 (11:59 Central Time).  This date is a "hard" deadline-there will be no extensions beyond November 1.   As much as we would love to have your submission, we also need time to make sure that we present a great conference.  If you have any questions, please contact Justin Wareham (jwareham@okcu.edu).

The SWAM website (https://swaom.org/) will have more information.  Or if you are inspired, you can go directly to the submission site ( https://easychair.org/my/conference?conf=swam23)

Please meet that submission deadline of November 1 and we'll see you in Houston!
