I am looking forward to co-facilitating Accent Bias In Talent Assessment & Evaluation: Evidence, Risk, and Remediation (Session #22200)alongside Jason Randall on Sunday, August 2nd from 8:30-10 AM! In this PDW, which is sponsored by the DEI Division, we will discuss how organizations can proactively address accent bias in their talent assessment processes and reframe accents from a strengths-based perspective. There will be active exercises, group discussions, evidence-based recommendations, and background research presented from the International Journal of Selection & Assessment meta-analysis that preceded the development of this workshop.
We hope that attendees leave the session having had the opportunity to critically consider points in the selection process where accent bias might occur, recognize the value of accent diversity in their respective organizations, and consider actionable, evidence-based approaches to improve their organizations.
Key Learning Objectives:
- Understand more about up-to-date research on the
prevalence of accent bias in employment interview evaluations
- Increase awareness of the conditions that make accent bias more or less likely to occur in employment interviews, and what can be done to mitigate it
- Demonstrate best practice techniques to keep accent bias in check
during talent assessment and evaluations
- Identify evidence-based practices or policies that organizations can use to minimize accent bias and augment their talent pool.
Prior iterations of this workshop have been presented to The City University of New York and IPAC: International Personnel Assessment Council.
